Known as the Garden City of India, Bangalore accounts for 60 percent of the total garment exports. The City's apparel market is growing at the rate of 65 percent every year.

This information was made available at recently held South India Garment Association (SIGA)-organized show in the Koramangala indoor stadium, Bangalore.

More than 75 companies participated in the 13th edition of this annual event held for garment manufacturers and retailers while participants put up their stalls displaying their works. A fashion show was held where models showcased the latest collections of the participants and new entrants into the Bangalore apparel market.

A variety of garments were showcased including nightwear, formal menswear and casual wear. The SIGA show is held every year in Bangalore. Garment manufacturers and retailers do almost 90 percent of their business in three days.

Anurag Singhla, secretary, SIGA 2007-09, said 'This year we are looking at a business turnover of Rs 100 crore'.

When the exhibition started thirteen years ago, the turnover was just one crore. Bangalore has become one of India's largest exporters, contributing 60 per cent of India's exports. This industry has employed 10 lakh people in Bangalore.

The apparel industry plans to achieve a target of US$ 50 billion by 2010.
